Botanical Garden - Košice
The construction of the Botanical Garden in Košice began on May 5, 1950. The construction of greenhouses for subtropical plants began in 1951. The Botanical Garden is a scientific and pedagogical workplace of the University of Pavel Jozef Šafárik in Košice. It covers an area of 30 hectares, with greenhouses on an area of 3,500 m2 and a collection of over 4,000 species, subspecies and cultivars of plants, making it the largest botanical garden in Slovakia; the plant communities in the area of the botanical garden complement the rare and endangered species of animals that have found their home here the largest collection of cacti and cycads in Slovakia is located here; very rare specimens of various tropical and subtropical plants, for example unique orchids, as well as "living fossils", for example wolemia, ginkgo or sequoia
